Dr. Saotome is the creator of the original Getter robots including the Shin Getter Robo, but after Musashi's kamikaze caused damage to New York City, his institution's research on Getter Rays was halted and was unable to mobilize the Shin Getter until many years later.

Appearance and Personality

Dr. Saotome resembles his original counterpart including his short and stout figure, graying hair with a beard, and beady eyes. He is always seen dressed in a shirt and tie with pants, a lab coat, and his signature geta. Dr. Saotome is driven by his desire to discover the power of Getter Rays as well as their effectiveness against the Dinosaur Empire. He was more than upset when the government halted Getter Ray research as the threat of Emperor Gore was still present.

Dr. Saotome is an accomplished scientist in the fields of energy and robotics, culminating them into the Getter Robo.

History

Dr. Saotome witnessed as the Shin Getter reacted to Getter fallout caused by Musashi's sacrifice. While ready to move on with this discovery, the Japanese Parliament in an attempt to save face halted all research and future developments on the Getter Rays. For years, Dr. Saotome stayed out in his all but abandoned institute until the Dinosaur Empire took the attack directly there. With the old and new Getter Teams present, the hidden Shin Getter was put into motion. After the battle with Gore, Dr. Saotome is seen in a photo with both groups with the Saotome Institute presumable reopened.

• Kosei Tomita reprises his role as the character since his appearance in the original Getter Robo anime series.
